Machanical Guage

Recommended Posts

craigmi16

hey all i had worries about the oil pressure in my mi16 so as advised i bought and fitted a machanical oil guage and all seems fine just one thought

i have a new oil pump with 6 bar peugeot spring new release valve

when hot and reving it will rev up to about 4k and be at 64psi i can then rev it all the way up to 7100 and it will not change it will stay at roughly 64-65 psi i read somewhere that the pressure should idealy be 10psi for every 1000 revs I.E 7k should be 70 psi so are my readings a little low??

also when it is realy hot it will idle at 5 psi i think this is a bit too low the idle speed is a smoth 1000 rpm

any thoughts on this

Just look at the spring with the release valve as a pressure regulator, well that's actually what it is. When the pressure goes over 65 psi iti will release sufficient oil past the galleries for the pressure to drop back to 65.

5 psi for idle does sound too low though. I used to get a around 15 with 10w60 synthetic Agip racing oil, but that was on the std gauge so may as well have been a lot lower.

Hi mate,

On cold start up I get 80psi when rev'd cold I get 100+ psi.

When car is up to temp the car idles at 40psi and sits at 70/80psi when above 4k revs.

Now after hard driving the car idles at 20psi. (track driving)

All these reading were tooken with a mechanical gauge.

My oil pressure had dropped a little last week but after an oil and filter change the figures were back to normal .

I did hear something about pattern part pumps no giving a much pressure as a oe peugeot 1 though
