Painting Engine Components

Recommended Posts

Eliganza

Sorry if this has come up before, did a search and didn't find anything. Basically I was wondering what paint people use for various engine components? I want to start tidying up my engine bay by painting some of the grubbier bits. Will I need high temperature paint for everything? And what should I do to prepare the surfaces for painting? Any ideas where to start for maximum effect? Lots of questions haha, I thank you in advance for your help...

Personally I wouldn't paint it at all - looks like a perfectly good engine bay to me.

Rocker/cam cover maybe? Doesn't get too hot, but I'd use a high temp paint anyway.

hi i would use hi temp paint but it still not the best. hamerite is good but takes ages to get a decent finish

i bought a shot blaster £20 then got every thing powder coated £60

the calipers were done with hamerite took bout 3 days to get a nice smooth finish

Thanks for the replies; the consensus is yes to hi temp paint I guess then. I wasn't planning on anything too fancy, I think i'm going to spray up the rocker cover, fuel filter bracket, AFM and maybe alternator housing as they are all looking corroded and shabby. Brake servo needs painting too really, i think simple blacks and silvers will keep it looking clean and subtle.

UPOL Acid8 everything first (primer) (Halfords)

Brackets \ Inlet mani \ AFM etc..... Simmonz 5 wheel silver or satin black. Good durable paints, easy to get a good finish (Halfords)

Engine blocks / brakes etc... POR15 Engine Enamel (Frost.co.uk)

Rocker cover.. Plasticote metal protect is pretty good (B&Q). I have done rocker covers in normal everyday rattle cans though and they have lasted well.

I spit on hammerite. Spray or brush on.
