I've done a search and found bits of info but probably hampered by the SAD not being searchable as only three letters.

Anyway, I'd like to remove this (hillclimb car, 45s) and wonder can anyone help me with the following:

(1) Where have people who have done this sourced the longer pipe to replace this or is it just done with some generic pipe from a motor factors and a joining piece of metal pipe (are these readily available?)

(2) I'm assuming the two plugs that go onto the SAD are already out of use as I'm not using injection anymore?

(3) At the bottom there is a bit pointing forwards that looks like a pipe should be on it. What is this for? Can't believe I missed it before, well I can because I'm crap mechanically :-(

Many thanks.

phase 2 cars had the SAD bolted directly to the thermostat housing and didn't have the extra piece that the ecu temperature sender screws into, the temperature sender was relocated to the rear of the thermostat housing next to the instrument cluster senders.

the hose from the heater matrix round to the side of the thermostat housing for these later cars would be suitable, stew baker does these :)

as for the 3rd question, not a clue without a picture really.

It sounds from your description that the SAD is just left bolted to the bottom of the CTS which you can leave in place so its effectively already removed, certainly as you're running carbs its not used.

There is only one plug to the SAD (black) & another for the coolant temp sender (blue).

The bit that looks like it shuld have a pipe on is the SAD.

You don't need to do anything about the water pipes, its fine as it is but if you want to remove the CTS housing then you can get the hose from Stew like Mei says.

Graham.

I did this recently as like you Simon my car is on 45's and doesn't need it, in fact the SAD was just hanging by it's plug... :)

As said, it's simple enough to get to, under the dizzy area, and you shouldn't need to replace any of the SAD related piping etc, dependant on how you now run your breather system.

This article may help in some way (hopefully!)

For reference, mine runs a catch tank which the breather hose from the top of the oil filler tower is plumbed into;

So what I thought was the SAD is in fact the Coolant Temp Sensor which I do have pipes running to and from and I have no pipes to or from the SAD.

I'm assuming that the CTS isn't working as the sensor goes into the ECU loom so I'll ditch the CTS and contact BBM for a pipe. Does the sensor run the temp gauge or the stop light?

Baz, thanks for the photo, that's answered the next question I was going to post! My breather system is similar to yours but the pipe from the cam cover runs to the filler cap and the catch tank was filling up rapidly, even over the course of a couple of events. The guy who did the carbs for me put it that way but I'll change to your setup and even there is more oil than there should be coming from the cam cover it will be going to the right place!

The same carb guy reckoned worn rings were causing crankcase pressure that was forcing the oil out (presumably up the filler pipe (which sounds unlikely) but the re-routing will hopefully knock that idea on the head!

Thanks again guys.

The blue 2-pin coolant sensor is purely for the fuel injection - the gauge and stop-light are fed from a couple of sensors on the thermostat housing with a single spade terminal on each ^_^

Doh, see those now! Which further justifies my quest to rid the car of unnecessary gubbins so I can get my head around and maintain the stuff I actually need. Aiming for an engine bay this tidy ^_^

i'd be hhappy to get mine as clean as Baz's!

My breather system is like Baz's red one and works fine and as I'm running carbs, I've left the sad in place and its just not used.

What have you got the other breather outlet on the filler tower cap connected to Baz?

Or is it blanked off?

Its blanked off but you can (or could) get an Mi cap with just the one outlet.

As Graham said it's just blanked off with a very neat little alloy bung that Richard Longman & Co. did when they fitted the engine, there's lots of lovely little touches like that on the car!
