Gti 6 Head Rebuild

Recommended Posts

chris-stdt

Hi ive been offered a 205 with a gti 6 lump with a snapped belt and was wondering on the rough cost of a rebuild ,obviously new belt ,bolts and hg but what might the other parts cost (valves etc) or would i be better off with a secondhand head ?

Any help on this will be much apprieciated

Thanks

Chris

Head rebuilds come it at around £350.

Head gasket from pug is £40ish

Cambelt kit for around £50 from gsf.

I sourced a second hand head and the rest as above.

probably cheaper to get another bare engine, stick a belt kit and water pump on it, job done.

Have you removed the head yet? Worst case damage would be a snapped valve which has caused damage to the piston. otherwise it's 16 bent valves and damaged guides.

Certainly less hassle to source a new engine but personally i'd send it away (qep, miles etc) and have it rebuilt unless your confident in rebuilding the head yourself.

The last time i checked valves where around £6.00 each from peugeot although engine builders would probably source them cheaper, then there's a head skim, valve guides etc.

Unless you have all the tools for the headwork then don;t even attempt it, Even many engineering companies get the heads wrong and still tap after a so called rebuild and why there is only 1 company I use now for this

But unless you;ve got the engine in parts you can assume that even the piston/s may be shot as the valve heads tend to drop off too
