Cooling Issue

Recommended Posts

Evening all,

For the past couple of weeks I have been having Cooling issues with my Gti5 Basically when I'm driving it, it rises and falls never stays the same, but when I'm in traffic no matter what the weather is the temp goes up fan comes on and the temp guage moves up?

I changed the thermostat for a new one and it made little difference apart from the temp was sitting higher and fans cutting in later than normal. I have removed the thermostat now and it obviously takes longer to get upto temp but it stays at a constant temp but still as soon as I stop the temp guage moves up? I have noticed that when it starts warming up there is a odd noise somewhat like rubbing/grinding/trapped water noise you can only hear it when sat in the cabin and not when you open the bonnet. Is it possible the heater matrix is not allowing enough water to flow through and causing it too make this noise?

I'm not loosing any water or oil and the temp guage never gets near the red so I don't think it's the headgasket but there's always the thought in the back of my mind.

Thanks for any help available.

Seb

Hi mate, just make sure the coolant is circulating next, this would me my next step and is quite an important move, the water pump may have seen better days and could be the death of your engine via overheating or a snapped belt due to a water pump seize up. so i wouldnt drive it till you get it sorted.

That's the thing though Cambelt, water pump and tensioners were all replaced around 7000 miles ago with genuine pug parts.

All Praise The GTI

hello mate. thats a bummer. although my 6 and several others on here have had problems with temp going up when stationary.

although my fan is on a set switch i have now put in a lower temp thermostat and put on the vts expansion cap.

just make sure you dont have any air in the system? pain on mine as with silicone hose theres only one bleed screw which is allot lower then the tank. a bleed screw in the 3 way silicone hose would of been good

ahhh, thats ifffy. just check its circulating first mate. if not perhaps you do have a matrix blocked.
