Losing Weight

Recommended Posts

locosaki

I'm now trying to remove some weight from my 205 to try make it lighter/quicker !!

The car is stripped with a cage fitted,I've already done light weight brakes and C5 alloy/steelies.

What/Where would be the next logical thing to do to try and remove more weight ?

Anyone have any idea what realistic target weight I should expect to achieve ? How doable is 800KG

I'm thinking about removing bracing from under bonnet,Rear window wiper mechanism is also removed

The car is 95% track car if that makes any odds.

Cheers

Mike

how comprehensive is the cage? what material was it made from? you can save a fair bit of weight by using the right tubing.

if its a welded in multipoint one you could remove a lot of material from inside the rear quarter panels, chop out the doors. etc

polycarb windows.

lighter seat/s.

minimal dash+heating system.

sub 800 is possible at a push, I think Colin satchel was under 800 , rear end of his car looked like a Swiss cheese ;)

It's an omp cage if that means anything,Unsure of the material it's made from or how heavy the cage actually is,It was in car when I got it.

It's welded in at the front cill area and bolted in at the back.I removed the bars from the door area though to make it easier to get in/out.

I will remove the covers thats on the doors and see what can be removed from there.

The seats that are in the car are after market(Rage bucket seats)

Is it worth while removing the heating system ?

Remove the entire interior, including the heater, cut out the inner door skins and fit a fg bonnet to name a few.

Rip out the old wiring loom and replace it with just the nesacarry wires, should save a fair bit of weight.

Tea-bag the shell ie, cut out, or drill holes into unimportant areas of the shell. There was a thread with some guy who did this to his car but i cant find it.

If it's pretty much track only I'd say lose the driving lights, front grill, interior lighting, glovebox, spare wheel cage, heater matrix and blowers, rear wiper/motor & associated gubbins, if you really want to get serious you could always fill your tyres with Nitrogen or Helium as well!

sunroof if its got one, its high up and saved me about 20kg.

My car came in at around 875 with its recent corner weighting. (without driver)

But it has a roll cage and a heavier engine.

Seats save you about 10kg each. Heater and associated parts around 12kg

Windows and mechs and glass is the next heavy thing to go without going overkill on cost id say.

Cheers Guys,

The sunroof thats on the car is just the small glass lift up one so I don't imagine it will be very heavy.

I'm debating wheter to remove heater or not as it's a track car, I probably should just do away with it !

That certainly gives me something to go on though.

If you remove the heater, bare in mind the ball-ache it then becomes with condensated windows etc, it really doesn't take much and the car's a sweat box.

You'll soon want to re-fit a heater!
