Sheared Bolt On Bonnet Hinge

Recommended Posts

dee205

The n/s back most bolt on my bonnet hinge is sheared off. It's the one that is in the actual car. It's not a clean cut and so is a c*nt to try and drill to use an extractor. Anyone any ideas...

Up until a month or so ago I had 3 205s sitting in my yard. All with the same problem. I have the plastic panel off and can get access but it's how to get the bugger out that's getting to me.

remove the wing is the only way to get any real access

I had thought of this but wasn't sure if it wouldget me to the back of the bolt. Would be handier drilled then. Is the wing bonded or sealed in any way?

Bit of heat and a good sharp stanley knife will help get it off.

I have had the same problem for a few years now. B)

Perhaps we should start a support group? :(

even with the wing off, you can't get at the rear of the captive nut.

if drilling it fails (i.e you make a hash of it) drill it all the way out and fit a Rivnut insert.

Had that on mine years ago, think the garage used a right angle windy drill to drill it out

Hope this helps

Is it always the o/s/r bolt that goes?

I'm actually thinking about welding a nut to the end of it and giving it a heating to see if it shifts. And it is usually the rear bolt as it takes most of the force on movement.
