Any One Recomend A Good Cheap Engine Stand

Recommended Posts

flipperthebushkangaroo

Any one know how much a 1.6 engne weighs when dressed , i have searched for a couple of hours but have found nothing.

I'm thinking of getting an engine stand, but not sure what i need. How does the engine fix to the stand? Can i remove/ fit the gear box on the stand or does the gearbox have to come off to fit the engine to the stand?

And for that matter am i better off just sticking it on a bench and working on it that way, saving the cash for other stuff?

Sorry to ask daft questions as ever

Thanks

Roddie

quick reply here, i have got a machine mart stand and its quite good, it has a plate that bolts to the block with a tube sticking out of it that slides into the stand, i fitted mine to the gearbox end, with gearbox to engine bolts, stand is 3 wheeled and easy to move around, you can have engine at many angles, the stand will take the weight of assembled gti engine, i currently have a mi on mine!! hope thats of some help?

Cheers for the fast replys every one, is there any way of fitting the engine so i can fit remove the gearbox or does it have to mount in place of the box as per floodys post?

Thanks again

Roddie

It mounts where the box goes, so indeed the box has to come off.

Bugger thats that plan foiled then!!!!! never mind stick it on the bench it is then, is there anything i need to be careful of when sitting it on the bench? does it need to stay right way up? Not planning to do much to the engine just clean up and perhaps renew a few sensors while its out and hopefully change the box for one which likes third a bit better.

make sure it is kept nice and warm, about 20-22c, they love it around that temp. sometimes you can see it smile.
