Hi, i have a phase 1.5 205 gti with a gti 6 engine in it. My clutch cable snapped today on the lug that attaches to the clutch pedal. Which cable do i need, 205 or gti 6? It's packed out currently, so noooo idea which 1 :S would appreciate help, thanks ;)

What gearbox is currently fitted, as that's what counts, together with the clutch pedal?

BE1 pedal has a hole in the end with a pin through it, and BE3 pedal has a hook on the end.

It's got an S16 box on it, but the clutch cable wasnt changed from gti 6 box. It was all packed out...does that make a difference?

If it's been packed out, It could be anything so I;d remove it and go from there, But it could be the std 205 cable as the plastic ends are the only ones that snap.

I here you. I've taken it out, ill try and match it to a new one. But is there any cable that is best? S16 cable, GTI 6 cable or just standard 205 and pack it out again?

depends which gearbox is fitted and which release mechanism the clutch uses.

If it's been packed out it's been bodged I'm afraid, so it really could be anything, Normally the 205 clutch is a push type and I bet whoever fitted just used the old GTi 6 pull type

ye you're right, it probably was a bodge....so what is the best thing to do? It's an S16 box. The bit that actualy broke was the plastic hook thing on that goes on the pedal. So is everyone saying best to get a S16 clutch cable? But will that fit on the pedal?

if you had a plastic loop on the pedal that's likely to be a BE3 pedal, and if its an S16 gearbox exactly as it came from the donor vehicle then it'll be a pull clutch, I do believe its possible to use a 306 cable, IIRC Dan Taylor used one on his silver 205.
