Gti6 Inlet Manifold On An S16

Recommended Posts

Mr Bob

hello there

i fitted a gti6 inlet manifold to my S16 engine last week, and everything was fine, however now there is a lot of white smoke coming out from under the bonnet and the bulkhead is coverd in oil (oil burning on the exhuast manifold)

im thinking i have done the oil breathr pipes wrong and the oils coming out the dipstick as all the oils on that side plus i have put the 22mm oil breather on to the 13mm port on the gti6 throttle body with the use of a reducer im thinking maybe its causing a block?

however i havent seen any oil come from the dipstick plus there is oil around the rockercover breather as well

any idea where all this oil is coming from?

the only other odd thing ive noticed is its running really hot, it sits at 90oC on the motorway but around town (both normal and stop start) its at 110oC with the fan running

well I can see that the dipstick isn't pushed home properly, does it fit tightly into its guide tube?

It fits in but not tight, it was like that even with th S16's inlet and it was fine then

not sure then, obviously there would be two issues if it is getting pushes out, a worn dipstick and excessive crankcase pressure for some reason.

I used the gti6 pipe from that valve on the intake then a few bits of copper inline joiners

IMO it wasn't worth the hassle, as well as the fact that there are still no concrete evidence that it is an improvement.

ahh i see how you have done it,

and i take it you didnt have any breather problems?

my dipsticks stays in but at higher revs it slowly moves out as if its the vibration of the engine thats moving it (kinda like sitting a coin on top of th engine and revving it)

the only other thing on my mind is i also have a gti6 exhaust manifold fitted and one pipe sits really close, almost agents the rocker cover/cylinder head im thinking maybe its burnt through the rockercovers seal, but that means having to take the rocker cover off etc......

oh and i thought i would add the oil pressure gauge hasnt changes it still sits at 4bar at idel and 8 bar when revved, its done that even with the 2.0 8v/S16 and S16 with gti6 inlet

Thanks, I'm starting to think it may not be a breather problem after all, need to try hunt down where th oils coming from.
