Mi16 Timing Belt Markings On Cams And Crank

Recommended Posts

Ant

Hi,

Ive just replaced the head on my Mi16 and noticed there are no markings on the cams and crank teath, as there are on all the 8vs ive done belts on.

The belt itself has the marking lines.

Is this common ( or have a done something daft like put the cams on back to front ( although i dont think it will let you from memeory as they only fit one way )) to all the Mi16 lumps.

Any advice on how i line the belt up and also is there a technique for tightening the tenshinors on a 16v ? is it just a 1/3 of a turn slack on the lengths of belts ?

Thanks

There should be timing holes

One in the crank on an angle that goes into a slot

And one in each of the cam pulleys that go into the head, these can be lined up with drill bits

Hi,

cheers for the quick reply.

The cams and crank are located properly ( ie via the timing holes ans slot on the cam )

Its where i line the belt up to. On 8vs there a tiny "dot" Stamped into the and cam and crank, where you line the belt to.

On the 16v there is not stamp mark ?

Get or download a Haynes manual; it's all in there and it's quite simple. You are perhaps over-complicating matters.

Try 'M@tt's' signature on here, and get the 405 Haynes manual from there. It's free.
