Drivers Door Check Strap

Recommended Posts

Phil205

I have been getting an annoying rattling noise from the drivers door for a while. I always thought it was coming from where the door check strap meets the car body anchor point.

The door check strap is anchored to the car body with a door check strap pin.

I recently changed the door check strap pin to try to fix this. The pin is a pretty tight fit in the strap, but there is still quite a bit of play between the door check strap and the car body anchor point due to wear over the years.

I am now thinking, however, that the rattling noise is not being caused by that, but is rather due to the door check strap vibrating up and down and rattling against the door.

Is this a common problem and am I thinking along the right lines ? Is it best fixed with a new door check strap or is there an easier fix ?

All comments appreciated !

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but my drivers door is swinging freely so I guess something has failed in my check strap. I'm not sure how they work. Is it likely I need just a new pin or the strap and pin? Does anyone know if they are still available from Peugeot? I think the pin is 918163 and the strap is 918146. Thanks

I bought a complete unit off eBay last year, oe part.

Mine failed when the pin rusted through and the door was then able to open very wide!

I expect that's what has happened to mine. My door trim has a mark on it where it has hit the wing! Was it easy to replace?

Thanks Craig. Don't suppose you know if I need both parts to fix the problem or whether it will be a new pin to fix? Are you also able to confirm whether they are NFP as I'm hopeless at finding parts on service box!

Both are still good.

Sounds like the pin has failed but that doesn't mean the strap isn't tired as well.

Put it this way new strap and pin say about 20 quid.

Body shop to repair dented wing etc, a few extra £££

Excellent, thanks for your help. I'll get myself to my local dealer for both parts.

You may need a pin removal tool more for getting pin back in.

Oh really? I was hoping to have a tap with a hammer and screwdriver to remove the old one and thought the new one would go in with a hit of a hammer too (carefully of course!)
