Help Needed

Recommended Posts

Guest matarmitage88

Hi,

I have a 1989 205 GTi, bought the car last october, perfect condition, lovely runner, paid £2500 for it to use as a weekend car. All went wrong when the idle started to rise, just slowly but got upto 2500rpm. It was recommended I changed the inlet gasket which I did and there was a hole in the old one.

Back to normal.

The as it was in the garage over winter the battery went flat, tried to jump it but wouldnt, seemed there was a fueling problem. I took it to my olcal garage amnd after many weeks they fixed it, it started but never ran as it did.

going on from that, the car now starts up on 3 clyinders, runs terrible until warm and then runs a little nicer on 4.

6 Months later and no garage can help me, they dont know what it is, they say the ACU, ECU etc .....

I do know that the IAT reading is incorrect voltage at the ECU if that means anything.

I live in Worksop, Nottinghamshire and would be very very grateful if anyone could shed some light on this, advise of anyone in my area who could possibly help me get my 205 back how it was

Thank you in advance for any assistance

Mat

Think your just going to have to systamatically change stuff until it fixes.

if i were you i would proberbly do this

- Check the earths on the car (free)

- I have in the past used easy start, to test if the ignition is working properly, if its running on 3 when on easy start then its more than likley a problem with the ignition rather than fuelling.

- Spray easystart around your intake system to determin if there are any air leaks. (is your oil filler neck bolted to the air inlet manifold)

- change your plugs

- Change your HT leads (you could use some testers to figure out which cylinder isnt firing)

- Change your Rotor Arm

- use a multimeter to check the wires between the ECU and the injectors for high resistance.

- use a multimeter to check the resistance of your AFM

Pm 'Tom Fenton' who is based in Rotherham, he will be able to resolve your problems if you can transport the car to him.

Beaten to it by the man himself!
