Introducing My Car And I

Recommended Posts

SebRad

I'm sorry I didn't get round to this in my introductory post and I hope this is acceptable location for this as other seem to have pictures of their cars here.

I had a 205 CTI some years ago until I had a job with company car and needed money for doing up my cottage.

I mostly loved it and missed it a lot when I no longer had it, just driving it, even gently, would make me smile.

I was idly looking on eBay the other day and saw this all but identical one and the weather had been unusually sunny... so a couple of messages and phone calls later after a little haggling it was mine bought on a "best offer"

Got a few niggles, mostly doesn't run brilliantly when hot, misses and very "jumpy."

Not sure the clutch is great and I've already replace the N/S drive shaft and it needed a good cleaning but it's not bad and nothing that can't be sorted.

I know people that can help with repairing the driver's door for reasonable money too, when I get round to it.

On the plus side the car has had a new, mohair, hood 3-4 years ago, a reasonable Sony stereo, an immobiliser, good tyres on the back and as new on the front. Also recipients for loads of work done in the past.

My car at home in the sun:

My only mod has been to make a plywood parcel shelf with 6x9s

4.jpg

The front speakers were shot, cones all broken round the edges so I've fitted some fairly good replacements to go with the rear 6x9s. Not that I'm audio nut or anything at all, just want to have reasonable sound and that will do ;)

Currently my daily transport on commute from Forest of Dean to Gloucester, long may the good weather continue ;)

I may also be spotted occasionally in Cheltenham or Monmouth

Regards, Seb

Welcome, I'm currently in Cheltenham I have a similar coloured STDT.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmohair ;) yum!

Lovely colour - not the same colour as an STDT as it is unique to the CTI. The seats look very good for a CTI. Are they red chequers? If not then they may have been changed. Mats in a CTI are a good sign as the carpets are rare.

Issues sound a bit like HT leads to me possibly so it could be an easy fix.

I hope to see it at Pugfest as it is so close to you! There will be another recently repainted Atlantic skip there from the Leics group. he has 6x9's in the rear parcel shelf for the pedestrians too

Looks good, do a search on here for "Plasticare" for a cheap way to make your bodykit look as good as new again.

Hi Guys, thanks for the welcomes B)

I've been doing some reading up round here and already found the thread on plasticare as the plastic trims are very faded. Any idea if I should be looking for dark grey or black?

I'm not 100% sure about the colour but having seen pics of Henry's CTI I'm thinking the colour is nice, just needs a new coat of it  Current thinking best to save up and get door fixed and re-spay all at once. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

The interior isn't bad at all the front seats are good, the drivers right bolster isn't broken/split exactly but leans out some and can feel it moved by the door pocket when shuting the door!

Strangely it's the back seat bases that are in need as they are damaged. Past experience is the seat base is the same as GTI but the metal brackets are different and only couple bolts to swap them over. Shouldn't be difficult to get replacements.

Not sure pedestrians will benefit from the 6x9s. When the hood is down it rather muffles them as it's all folder up tightly on top of them, guess when it's up you'd hear them better. I only rarely have it turned up loud anyway, got to be in the mood... Maybe I'm just getting old :)

I'm thinking HT leads would be good as existing ones look a bit worse for wear and so far I've had 3 goes at replacements with no luck! First lot of nice looking Bosch ones off eBay but the distributor cap end was too small. Ordered the ones for DFZ engine it has, 1.9, 105 BHP. I've since had two further lots from local motor factors and, again the distributor cap end is too small and they suggest going to Peugeot dealer. Surely can't be that difficult to get right ones

Old distributor cap:

Anyone an idea what I should be trying to order or is my car not "standard?"

I will look in to Pugfest, Prescott only about 3/4 hour from me and think I'm free on 4th so I might meet some of you :(

Thanks, Seb

Unless its different on a CTI compaired to a GTI, the trim should be Black on that late a car

Cti owner here now too.

Had a Gti for 9 years, I think I'm getting too old to keep up the maintenence of an old car, so the plan was to buy something new to use everyday.

The idea is to buy a second car as a 205 Gti, and keep it mint by just using it for the summer!

So I bought a CTi instead.

Trouble is it needs a little bit of work to get it on the road! :-(

So maybe next summer, or year after..... or year after that, but if not then, definetly the year after or the following year for sure!

A lot of K platers had red carpets. Yours must be one of the first with the phase 2.5 interior if it is K with a grey carpet.

You want black plasticare Seb to spruce it up.

The rear seat squabs are the same as GTi apart from the brackets as you say.

Don't know about the red carpet, the previous one I had was L reg (94 I think) and that had red carpet too. It also had a higher ratio gearbox, my recollection is 6000rpm was good for 40,60,80,100,120mph. No idea if it came like the from the factory or if it had been changed at any point before I had it. This one has, at 6000rpm, aprox 35,55,70,90,110mph gearing. I previously presumed these where "normal" 1.9 and 1.6GTI 'boxes but a comment I read the other day suggested the 1.9CTI has a unique set of ratios.

Anyway I've every intention of keeping this car and I've managed to find the correct HT leads for it  on eBay, at a price... I've looked up the "Plasticare" and it's not on eBay anymore :( Hopefully will be back soon.

I'm planning on going to Pugfest now too :D

Good luck ALEX, get if done, a nice day and drive down the road with the roof down and the smile on your face will make it worth it :D

Paulmac19 your link is't working for me? Mohair roof? A search on ebay for "205 mohair" will find what you want, price is I think reasonable but still might be a problem. I was lucky my car came with it's mohair hood, not this was on the advert for it so result :) The paper work shows the hood was fitted 4 years ago and then cost more than I've paid for the whole car
