Possible Fuel Pump Problems?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I've got a 205 gti with a gti 6 engine conversion. I seem to have a little bit of trouble with how the car is pulling. Yesterday when comeing on to the dual carriageway, the car seems to bog down a little bit at low revs, but pick up again higher up the revs. I did notice the fuel pump was rather loud at this point, perhaps due to the heat, teamed with not much petrol in the tank to cool it, and being running for a while. But the fuel pump kind of ticks to itself aswel, almost asif it's only intermitanlty picking the petrol up. ( sounds veryyyy wierd, and whines veeeery loud)..? I do accept aswel, that i have an induction kit on my car, in a rather cramp engine bay and no real cold air feed to it.... and with it being that much hotter, my engine will undoubtably feel different! But is it this, or the fuel pump? Does this sound like an intermittant issue with the pump?

Thanks

depending on the directon and force of cornering, amount of petrol and the phase pump / tank you may experience surge...

recreate the situation with a full tank and see if it still happens.

you could also take the pump out and check that nothing is blocking the pick up.

Yes mate, ill check that :D hav noticed sometimes when it primes or driving, i can smell petrol...possible brake, cud just be coincidence, only smelt it once or twice. Its just low down in the revs, when at 2,000 revs or so in prety much all gears...just kind of struggles...feeling it wanting to pull but just not having enough of something. What do we think? I'm thinking fuel pump, coil pack or something like that? pulls FINE when up top in revs :S
