Cylinder Head Should I Retighten

Recommended Posts

GTIAndy

Hi

When I bought my car (1986 1.6 GTI) it had recently had a new cylinder head gasket, should I re-tighten the bolts now I have done a couple of hundred miles?

cheers

Probably wouldn't hurt to check the torques with a torque wrench?

i thought they were stretch bolts? and when doing them up you have to do it to an angle. (ie 50 mn pretightening then 180 degrees). so you will not have a final torque figure to measure off.

Yes you are correct mate , the final tightening is measured in degrees. Once they have been tightend to specifications they are streched as far as they should be and shouldn't be tightend no more.

Steel heads are usually supposed to be tightend further after reaching running tempreture. 205s are ally.
