Mot Failure...

Recommended Posts

Tommer

hi all,

just took the new car for its first MOT (since i've owned it) and it failed on the following:

emissions CO2 excessive

nearside stop lamp not working

registration plate lamp not working

nearside brake pipe leaking

offside tyre not fitted in accordance with instructions

nearside front wheel bearing feels rough when rotated

I have replaced the 2 bulbs, tightened the connection on the pipe that was leaking, swapped the rear wheels over (rotation was wrong).

I will adjust the emissions tomorrow when I have more time and swap the hubs, struts etc tomorrow from the donor car. not too bad i thought ;)

similar to my test. I failed on:

registration plate lights

offside headlamp aimed too low?

nearside front wheel bearing

nearside rear shock

and they managed to burst the break pipe that crosses the rear of the car.

Then they tried to charge me £230 to change the wheel bearing!

you boys go to some w*nk mot testers :P

the place i go does its best to actually get the car throught its mot instead of trying to fail it.

bloody headlight too low....why cant they just adjust it??

i had my rover coupe fail for that i took it away to do that and the exhaust took it back and he never bothered looking at that makes you think why bother failling it in the first place grrrrr.

its the first MOT since I've owned, it so would rather a nice thorough test to make sure its all good (enough). after this they can be as slack as they like

just whipped the front struts, driveshafts top mounts etc off the old car to swap over, never enough hours in the day!

You haven't been to Northern Ireland then, where mot is done by the government in independant buildings. They are very strict over here, but tbh i'd rather know if something was wrong on my car so that I could put it right. The last thing you want is something to fail on you on the motorway or the likes.

dont get me wrong the place i go is safe, they are red hot on safety issues like rust near belt mounts and tyres and suspension stuff which im glad about as i have both my kids in my car.

its just anal things like emmisions and bulbs etc they are not too fussed about.

where do you go?

i normaly use the peugeot dealer in canterburry as it was only £30 for the last MOT and they havent failed the old girl for 3 years, just played with the headlight bulbs/afm etc to get her to pass.

Hi mate,

I can sympathise. Mine failed yesterday. I always check out the car before MOTs and was fairly happy with it.

I get the call that it's failed - no operative main beam, and a split n/s rack gaiter. No main beam -? what's that all about I think. Get to the garage and they tell me headlight flash works (so bulbs are OK - and presumably the wiring, relay etc, etc)

but no selectable main beam - "looks like something wrong with the switch mate". It was working less than hour ago says I. (I am coming to the conclusion that they bust the switch , then threw in a split gaiter to justify the fail. Oh what a cynic I've become.

Fixable stuff , but just a pain in the proverbial.

good luck with yours

regards

Dave

Cheers Dave, booked in for re-test today, but you can gaurentee they'll find something else now or the emissions will still be too high. I like to watch them, just to make sure.

I'm confused - we're talking about a 205 right?

Surely they don't have a separate flasher as such - pull the stalk and it flashes main beam if lights are off and latches main beams on if lights are on.

Hi,

you are quite right, what was wrong was that the latch had bust and hence "no selectable/switchable main beam.
