S16 Head To 1905cc Mi16 Block

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on fitting the spare S16 head I have onto my 1905cc Mi16 block, and while I thought it would be straight forward it has now been pointed out to me that I may have problems with the headbolts. It seems the headbolt above the water pump is the issue here, as the S16 head does not have the built-in raised seat like the 1.9 Mi heads have.

Basically, all I need to do is replicate the seat and was planning on using an arrangement like the 8v heads have with doubled up spacers.

Would this suffice?

Hello there..i fitted the s16 head on my 1.9 block using the bolts of 1.8 16v (XU7JP4 i think) which are about 15-20mm shorter..it seemed to be ok but right now i have oil in the water..perhaps an issue withe the drilled holes for the manifolds..i am trying to figure it out..

If it were me I would use the 8v spacer setup.

No need anymore, I'm going to use the original D6C head. Just going to rob the valves from the S16 head though. There was no damage to the chambers, and I know the history of this head, rebuilt with new seats and guides some time ago and has only covered 25k. The guides in the S16 head are badly worn hence requires a complete strip down and rebuild before it's used again.

The length of the headbolt land to the cylinder head face is virtually the same, so was planning on using the D6C spacer setup with matching headbolts. Only on 'that' corner above the water pump, I've machined a spacer to match the raised seat on the D6C head.
