Original Oil Cooler Sandwich Plate Threads And Fiitings

Recommended Posts

Dylan l

As title really.

We had some really high oil tempreture's on the last rally and have decided to fit an oil cooler.

I have an original sandwich plate but the hoses are industrial hydraulic hoses and i'm having trouble bending the hose round the radiator.

As I am going to fit new hoses, does anybody know what thread/pitch/fitting the sandwich plate is? or is it better to get a new sandwich plate with known thread size

Thanks in advance

Dylan

It's some mega f***ed up thread size :) been searching for ages on loads of places for tap to clean up the threads , been to loads of machine shops and they all responded like this - .. no one had it , and they where all wondering what kind of thread is that ..

Though we did measure the thread size inside the sandwich plate , but i really cannot remember the number , was a long time ago .. sorry

Damir

Got some overbraid hoses for mine few years ago - tried making new fittings and drilling out and retapping original threads on sandwich plate (some welding was involved aswell) although all in vain.

Then bought a mocal sandwich plate instead - had to turn down the fitting which secures the sandwich plate to the block slightly as the internal hole was a smidge smaller on the mocal - but hey presto much better!

Do the hose ends look like this, and have an o-ring on the end?

Yes but a the gap between the o ring seems to be a little longer than the one in the picture.

Then they're called o-ring pilot threads, and are normally only used for air conditioning hoses - in fact the fittings I bought to make some aircon hoses are a perfect fit, same size and thread. They're some sort of weird imperial thread.

Trying to find some that would fit normal oil hose might be difficult. It's probably easier to buy a new sandwich plate with more normal-sized ports.
