Fitted A "earth Grounding Kit" Today

Recommended Posts

JayCC

Hey Chaps,

Well after putting up with electrical niggles in my 205 for years i decided to try and do something about it!

I purchased a earth grounding kit for £40. Fitted today, here are some pictures.

Results: Car starts great everytime i've tried (used to get a 'clicking' starter often). I get 100% radio signal (use to crackle really badly). Car seems to idle better aswel.

hmm, I'm not convinced, I do agree you need a good earth, but not £40's worth draped aimlessly across the engine.

I know, it does not look very pleasing to the eye (i've tidied it up more since taking the pics though). I wasnt sure if they would work myself but the 40 odd quid was worth the risk considering the hassle i used to have

I would agree with Welshpug tbh mate.

You could have saved yourself a good bit of money and probably had the same effect by just cleaning up your earth points, renewing any earth cable needing it and doing away with those earth blocks by changing the blades terminals to nice new ring ones and securing with a nut!

An ebay special I presume...

Different people prefer different methods of doing things.

Good idea really, I remember Kyepan used a few earthing straps to sort out some of his problems and worked a treat, Sarty did also.

Both said it improved performance and starting

I'm glad you sorted the problems but could this not have been achieved by just redoing the original earths?

Earths are extremely important, and I'm glad this kit has improved your car, but to anyone considering this kit go to maplins and get exactly the same stuff for 10-15 pounds :P

yes you will have to make it yourself, but its not hard and by the looks of it will be far more 'tailored' than this kit <_<

As said, your better off with a new Main earth with a suitabale size cable or even having 2 cables around 16mm dia,

Small cable's are not a good idea as they can only carry a low current so if you have a bad earth somewhere else you canmelt the cable in extreme cases,

I know the Wampy on the 306 Forum sells these saying they improve the ECU and sensor earth's, but they all ground at the ECU and one earth point on the gearbox so they are pointless.

I done similar idea to sort the earths.

I replaced all the battery cables to the starter, alternator, and earth points with thick stereo power cables. Then I put a braided earth strap from by the cambelt end of engine to the fuel filter mount. My thinking behind this is there are no earths on that side of the engine, and since the plugs ground through an alloy head it can only be better for it!

Since doing this the vehicle has started better, ran better and all the electrics seem more reliable.

However its still all in factory positions bar the braided strap.
