Airbox Topic Search Help

Recommended Posts

I have searched but I cant find a particular post or thread about carb/injection airbox set ups.

I am looking for any comparisons as I am either going to build a front mounted flat panel filter box or box with a side mounted cone filter this summer for my Mi 309 on 45 webbers

Any pointers or thread locations would be great cheers

I am not lazy honest

I think the front mounted box is better as it is forces the air in more from the outside, but you need to drop the radiator for best effect. Stew Baker (Stew205) had a nice little set up and DazC made the rads IIRC though they are available here http://www.bakerbm.com/205.php?data=alurad205

Ah thanks Henry but rad issues are not a problem as I have sourced a oem bmw (540 iirc) ali rad and made custom mounts to mount it well out of carb sight and also allow an oil cooler vertically next to it.

Just need to know about relative gains on front mounted panel filters overs side mounted cones..

There was a topic a few months ago about this. I could be getting mixed up, but I think it was MR 205 who started it. IIRC he was looking at going the route of using an airbox with side mounted cone filter to try and reduce induction noise, but the general recommendation from those in the know was that it would be a compromise and would be far better sticking to a flat panel box.
