Indicator Wiring

Recommended Posts

Searched a few topics but not answered questions really.

Ok, so basically, rear indicators work on the stalk and the hazzard switch. And so does the drivers side front indicator. All at normal speed, no problems.

The passenger side doesn't work and neither do the side repeaters.

The 'light' part of the loom is where the working front indicator in attached to. But if i plug in the 'light' part of the loom to the n/s indicator it doesn't.

Bulbs all work as far as i'm aware.

But also, not sure how the side repeaters wire in. Obviously there is a wire going to it through the wing to the repeater, but how and what does it, or is it meant to wire to the other end?!!?!!

Any help would be appreciated.

The usual cause of this in my experience is either a bad earth, or a corroded connector - in this case, on the nearside indicator or earthing point next to the headlight.

Anthony, do you mean the yellow block with about 5 or 6 connectors/earths ?

If so, what is the best way to combat this ?

Take them all off and attach ring ends to them ?

Yes, the yellow block next to the headlight is the earth.

A good squirt of WD40 and plug the connector in and out a few times will normally get it working again, or as you say, chop off the block and crimp a ring terminals on the ends - just beware of corroded/oxidised wire which unfortunately you're bound to find in the last few inches of the cable.

The other connector that suffers bad connections is the 2-pin brown (I think) one near the indicator - again, WD40 and plugging it in and out a few times seems to largely rectify the issue. Other similar connectors in the engine bay all suffer in the same way, perhaps unsurprisingly after 20 years of an unsealed connector being exposed to the elements - the 2-pin yellow plugs for the driving lamps for example.

Cheers, mine have gone the same sort of way as Jakey's

My front headlights work, my rear lights work, my rear indicators work but none of the front indicators do

Will give the WD40 a go, otherwise it's ring connectors...I might even have some spare loom from that lot I could try

Ok will try that stuff later, but also, what do the the side repeaters connect to.

At the moment i have them plugged in, at the repeater end, but then i'm clueless as to what they otherwise plug in to?!?!

The siderepeaters plug into the loom somewhere down by the front repeaters. My passenger side repeater never worked for ages and the other indicators didn't flash fast, until my brother discovered it was plugged in wrong at the loom in the front

Faulty hazard switch probably, the indicators are wired through it so it can fail in this way yet still work for hazards.
