Rattle At Idle / Run Down

hi all,

 

car is ready for MOT, I'm planning on changing the cam-belt, tensioner and water pump when it passes as a reward.

 

however whilst playing and checking it, there is a worrying rattle coming from the cam belt area. its only really noticable when the revs are low, or when running down after being rev'd.

 

my thoughts are that's is the tensioner, maybe its loose or knackered as the belt doesn't seem particularly tensioned.

 

any thoughts or insights to anything i may have over looked would be appreciated

Sounds like tensioner or water pump. if its defo coming from cambelt area!

I've had a loose cambelt on an 8v cause a similar issue - try re-tensioning the belt first of all

Yeah I'll have a fiddle and check the tensioner over the weekend, I have the kit to do the cam change now so if it is the tensioner or the water pump it should be sorted. also have a spare altenator I can try just in case.
