Starter Motor Wont Stop When Ignition Is On

got the battery on my 205 gti today and all dash lights were on but would not turn over, so i changed the connector to the other spade terminal as there is 2 on my starter motor and then when i turn key to the second position it just runs continious any ideads as to where im going wrong guys? as it either wont turn over or wont stop!

im useing the thicker blue wire as the wiring diagram says but its really confusing me

thanks for any ideas or advice

can anyone help as don't think the blue wire is the starter swich as it is live all the time when ignition is on

Did you change the engine wiring loom?

 

The order of the ignition and starter solenoid wires are swapped around on the underdash brown plugs between Phase 1.5 and Phase 2 cars, so if you've used a loom from a different age car, you'll need to swap those two wires around and then it'll work fine.

cheers bud never knew this its a ph2 but dont know where the other loom was from as the car was in bits when bought it do u know the colours/ numbers for this?

It's the thick red wire (wire #2) and the thick blue wire (wire #46) that are at the end of the two under-dash brown plugs. Obvious enough when you look at it

How many topics about the same problem are you goiong to make?

 

If you haven't got an idea of what you are looking at now & sorted it out maybe you shouldn't bother because it sounds to me like this car is going to be a fire hazard.

 

Everything you have asked (several times) is all on here from previous topics & you have been handed all the info needed to do this job in various of your previous topics?

 

Do you look at them or just start another topic instead?
