Compression Tester Sealing

Recommended Posts

skinner2k3

Hi Guys,

Tried to run the compression tester on the 205 (XU9) last night and don’t think its sealing properly.

I got results of 45, 45, 45, 0 (psi) on an engine that runs quite happily. Surely if there was that little compression the engine wouldn’t run???

Ran the car until the fan kicked in so plenty warm enough.

The compression tester is a Taskmaster Pro range tool with both screw in and push in adaptors. The trouble is the depth of the plug holes means you can’t get hold of the actual threaded part of the adaptor to screw it in tight.

What do you guys use???

Cheers

Also to get a proper seal you realy need a tester that will screw into the plug holes,

EDIT

sorry read your post wrong, so long as the ruber seal on the tester has butted up againt the top of the plug jhole that should be sufficient, it does not need to be super tight.

also, I would remove all the plugs, makes it easier on the starter motor.

Ok, should have been ok then.

sounds like it was the closed throttle that was cocking things up......or rather the idiot not opeing the throttle

Yeah, all plugs were out.

Cheers chaps, will give it another go. Also will give the battery a good charge before I try again.

Iv put a little oil around the seal to help. Also dont tighten too much else the seal will not work properly and break a little.

Tried again yesterday with throttle jammed open....still got only 60 psi. The battery has taken a hammering though and is nowhere near fully charged so the engine isnt spinning as fast as it should.

Going to give the battery a good day on trickle charge then have another go.....3rd time lucky!
