I have had to stash it at my folks barn as I need my garage back for the impending return of my track 205. I drove it 30 miles today to the barn and it was fine, the coolant got a bit warm but nothing drastic so I was quite happy.

 

I will start work on it again in a few months when it will have cam belt, tensioner, full service and check over. Then it should be back on the road with luck.

Mini update, I have had the drivers seat bolster repaired and I collected it today.

The chap is called Ian and his company is P & M Taylor , 3 Meadow Industrial Estate, Reach Road, Burwell, Cambridge, CB25 0GH - 01638 741776

 

He had the seat three days and the cost was £48 inc VAT.

A new baby and a busy time with work mean very little has happened for a while, so today Carl Chambers collected the car.. He will give it a good look over first to see where to start.

It lives!! It passed it's MOT back in August. Today saw it returned from Carl's and is now sitting in the garage outside.

I have been really busy recently (it has taken me 3 months almost to sort getting the car returned to me), so I have not done any of the following work but over the past months the following have been replaced:

 

Head, water pump, cambelt & tensioner, clutch & cable, beam rebuilt, rear drums, o/s/f calliper, water pipes, plugs, leads, dizzy and two tyres. It has also had a dam good service.

Cosmetically, the wheels have been refurbished (and the centre sections have been re polished not painted) and the nasty hole in the upper rear floor has been repaired and painted.

 

If feel a bit embarrassed that I have have not done the work myself but my lack of ability and time made this impossible.

 

As I said, it now has an MOT, although it has a few advisories.

 

1. Steering system has slight free play detected in steering wheel (2.2.a.1b)

2. Windscreen has damage to an area less than a 10mm circle within zone 'a' (8.3.1a)

3. Offside front inner upper suspension spring mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (2.4.a.2)

4. Nearside front shock absorber has a light misting of oil (2.7.3)

5. Nearside front constant velocity joint gaiter deteriorated (2.5.c.1a)

6. Nearside front brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrules (3.5.b.4e)

7. Both front tyres worn to lergal limit (4.1.e.1)

8. Nearside front lower suspension arm has slight play in pin/bush (2.4.g.3)

9. (Rack pinion) steering pivot point has slight play (2.2.b.1g)

10. Both front discs pitted

11. Fuel pipe/s corroded

12. Both engine and gearbox mounts worn.

 

Carl thinks the gearbox mount is the most pressing issue from the above, something I might be able to tackle myself with luck.

 

Cosmetically, it still needs a bit of TLC although I am at risk of seeking a perfect car when the whole point of the project was to have a 205 that i am happy to use all year and leave in adar park overnight without worrying. I may need to rein in my goal and leave it looking presentable but not concourse perfect.

 

Anyway, the car is now with me so I hope to be able to invest some time into it now.
