Uprated Tu Gearbox Engine Mount

Recommended Posts

christopher

I bought one of Stews Baker BBM gearbox mount for my TU24 (Listed as for a peugeot 106) but when I went to replace it with the existing one I found that it is slightly taller than the original.

The difference is maybe a 5mm to 10mm.

The part number for a TU24 is 1843 95, which is the same as a XU one

Question is I suppose that this means that the gearbox side will sit higher than normal?

Is this ok? Are ny other TU boys running this mount..?

Yeah I'm sure it is pretty worn. Its 22 years old!!! Maybe its just a bit squashed :)

I just servicebox and the Mk1 106 uses the same partnumber as the 205, But the Mk2 uses another 1844 91

Wondering if the Mk2 one is higher?

Anyway I sent Stew an e-mail. I just wonderd what people are using..

Christopher,

I got a complete set of group N hard rubber mounts from PTS in Coventry back in 1999 for my TU24 and they are still as good as new. Can't remember the part numbers but pretty sure they are exactly the same as the mounts used on a 205 with the XU motor. I was going to get solid mounts, but decided that was a bit too radical! With the hard GpN mounts the motor does not move at all having watched it on the rolling road its solid enough for me.

Sorry for the hijack, but thought it wasn't worth starting a new thread for a similar question.

Basically I was wondering if I got uprated BBM mounts for my XS then woud I be able to use them all when I eventually stick a 106 gti engine in my XS? Don't really want to spend money for a set if they wont

Cheers

Doesn't look like sag to me. I can't see it causing any problems though

Ok but it clearly looks like a different height right?

You don't think it makes a difference?

The angle of the driveshafts will be slightly different right?

I'm considering shimming with a couple of washers underneath. Although I suppose I can't prove if the original one on the the car if the correct one or not

Look at the difference between the metal plates, there is none.

The gearbox will only butt up to the bottom of the mount (which are both the same length from the picture) so the only difference is how far the nut will be down the stud.

Edd,

The length between the top metal plate and the bottom metal plate is different on the two mounts. Thats the whole point. You tighten up the nut until the threaded rod edge contacts the botton of the top plate.

I think you can even see that there is a difference in the measurement between the plates...at least i can :D .. I think

The top plate doesn't matter, its the bottom plate, to the bottom of the rubber which butts up against the gearbox.

This measurement is the same on both.

Ed,

I'm think you are not correct :D The bottom of the mount does not touch the gearbox.

It is the threaded rod from the gearbox that mates with the top plate..

(I just checked with the spare gearbox in the basement :D )

Hate to say it mate but your wrong.

The gearbox will only go so far, and thats for a reason.

Any even if you were right, I wouldn't take much notice of the difference.

nope, and that's correct.

I doubt it'd cause any issues in this case as it doest look to be a massive amount taller, but it is difficult to compare old and new bushes.

my gearbox mount was a bit soft, so i put a short length of heater hose over the rod on top of the gearbox, where it goes up inside the mount. tighened everything up a treat.

Does anyone have a new or used TU or XU gearbox mount that they could measure for me (from the top metal plate to the bottom metal plate?

Cheers :)
