Broke Part Of Mi16 Engine

Recommended Posts

Ok i was removing the inlet manifold from my 2.0 Mi16 (same as S16) and i broke the rubber pipe from one of the ACAV ball things:

Will the car still drive ok without it connected or do i need to buy another one? The plastic snapped off where the pipe connects to it.

I also noticed that the bottom two right hand side butterfly valves were a bit sticky from 3/4 open to fully open, even when cleaned.

Would that have any effect on the car? Wondering if i should replace it while its off??

Kinda stuck without a car at the min so all help appreciated. Thanks

Without that system working, the car will be terrible below 4k revs - very sluggish and not responsive.

You can still drive it, but definately replace it soon as you can - when you fit the new one, fill the area around the pipe with silicon to give it a fighting chance of not breaking off.

Never seen sticky butterflys in the inlet myself, but have always kept away from these bastardly pointless designed pieces of witchcraft wherever possible. Should be plenty kicking about, so I'd see if someone on here has one you can swap with.

I read a long while back about putting gti-6 manifold on instead. Think there are a few issues, and use of perhaps the most overused phrase in modern "tuning" a few times (that word is "remap" btw).

I have a spare one of those vacuum actuators I can send you, but it may take a little time as I'll have to ask a friend to dig it out.

£15 posted if interested.

When the ACAV inlet on the 2.0 Mi works, I think it's very good indeed.

The GTI6 inlet is a good mod though.

Just out of interest - and considering they are part of the inlet/fuelling system - why on earth did you think they might not be 'important'?
