Opinions On The Rust

Recommended Posts

Well I need to get the rust sorted on the 205 pretty soon - before it gets any worse.

I've attached links at the bottom but this is really an appeal to any welders or people 'in the know' who could tell me what a good price is for getting it sorted.

Basically, the driver side quater panel is the worst bit - it has come away from the body up to the wheel horizontal trim and really needs replacing. You can see from the photo's that the sill will need patching up (I don't think it will need replacing, maybe even grinding down and filling?) and the q/panel will need to be chopped off at the trim and a new bit put on.

I'm not sure of how much of the inner arch will need work either?

The B pillar is also quite bad, the links below show the pillar and how bad the rust is inside the car.

There is also substantial rust on the passengers side sill and the wing needs replacing.

The sill could have the bad spots cut out and patched over, yes?

I know it is very hard to tell from photo's but if anyone has had the work done similar to mine, or if you're handy with the welder, how long do you think time/price wise?

I have had a local mechanic tell me it's 15-20 hours work, but because he is starting up on his own (I know he does good work) it will only be £10 p/h plus materials.

I didn't think this was too bad as it would have to be done in my driveway.

Sorry for the long-winded post, look forward to hearing any opinions!

Ross.

i think if its 10 a hour and he is doing it at your place sounds a good price and would snatch his hand off!

that looks a lot of work and a lot of people wont touch it

just keep a eye on the extras

ps is the car worth it?might be better of starting with a new shell

eg 20 hours x 10 is 200 pounds plus bits

As above, if you are confident in this guys ability then bite his hand off for £10 an hour. As a guide I'd want £25/hr to tackle stuff like that.

Thanks,

Is kind of what I wanted to hear... I think :)

As for if the car's worth it.. I didn't pay much more than that to get it, but the engines sweet as a nut and I'm in no rush to get it done - planning on taking things slowely and just doing bits as I can afford them so I'm not really too bothered if it is going to work out a few hundred more expensive than buying an already good shell...

I shall wait until payday and get him to start, thanks for the input!

Ross.

If it saves another shell then it's worth it!
