Liners - Replace The O Rings Or Not

Recommended Posts

Ant

hey folks,

Just taken the head off my Mi and had it checked over / stem seals replaced etc.

I was going to build it back up tonight, but on searching through the forum, found several people recommend changing the liner seals.

Yet in other posts people are saying dont disturb the liners and leave as is. ( Think on Toms rebuild post he mentions he doesnt like removing liners if not needed )

Liners seem solid in the block and theres no play at all.

Engines covered 69K - Its only covered 200 miles since 2001 !

im not fussed about the cost of the rings ( read on here pug only charge abour £5.35 for 4 ) but dont wanna risk any other issues on a very good and low milage lump.

Any advise / recommendations.

Cheers

I also believe in the "if they're not leaking and you don't need to touch the liners, leave them be" approach. This is what I did with mine; rebuilt every aspect of the lump but the one thing I left alone was the liners. Never had a spot of trouble since, and being a competition engine, it hardly got an easy time of things.
