Oil Filter Thread

Recommended Posts

davev

hi. could anyone please give me an idea on how to remove the oil filter thread out of the block(and how to tighten it into another)

ive tried very unsucessfuly on one, by trying to protect the thread and using mole grips but it was so tight they damaged the thread.

its the non water cooler type so it just a complete threaded tube, and i cant think of anyway to remove it without damaging it.

thanks. dave.

Assuming that you don't have a couple of thin nuts to put on and lock together to unscrew it, knock a large torx socket (T60 maybe?) into the middle of it, and then undo. Clean up any burrs or swarf after refitting into another block.

I removed mine by wrapping a piece of old alternator belt around the thread and then using mole grips on it

that is an option, but ill still have the problem of getting it tight in the block without damaging the thread.

I thought the inside of the thread was hexagonal / torx splined for a large allen key or Torx to tighten it in.

on the one i removed it was circular inside so i could not get anything on it.

i should have one from the dealers tomorrow so ill proberly try the altbelt method. im thinking just nipped up should suffice as id guess the filter would act as a lock nut when fitted.

bit of stud lock and carefully nipped in with some grips and something between to protect the threads should suffice if its smooth internally.
