Recommended Posts

Ive jus changed my 1.6 to 1.9 but can get it running right, ive checked the cam timing and ignition timing and they both fine. At 2k revs it will run perfect no stuttering nothin but anythin less and it pops farts bangs and just cuts out, anyone have any idea what this could be or what i should check next? cheers phil

Possibly the fuel pressure regulator - I had this pack up when I changed head gasket. Would run nice on high revs but wouldn't idle, just splutter and cut out.

Air leak would be my first check. Cover over the air inlet pipe. If it fails to cut out when well covered, there is a leak somewhere.

Typically it is the oil filler bolt that goes into the inlet manifold (hole goes all the way through).

Try that first and let us know how you get on. Most often these things are remarkably simple to sort.

thanks for reply, is there anyway to check this or is it a job of trying one that is known to be working?

ive tested for air leaks and there was a small one from under the oil filler, i have sorted it but has not helped... when you turn the key it will start up and sit at 2k revs but if you touch the accelerater the revs just die and cuts out.. does this sound like the fuel pressure regulator? or any other ideas? any help much appreciated, phil

Still sounds like an airleak, have you tried the test Boombang suggested earlier in the thread?

Agree with above, sounds like a large air leak, has the inlet been off? If it has, worth removing and replacing/checking the gasket.

Does sound like an air leak, spray some carb cleaner around the intake pipes etc, if the revs raise on there own thats where your leak is :)
