Gearbox Cti 1.9 Is The Same As The Gti 1.6?

Recommended Posts

nachogo

need help: I want to buy a gearbox 205 CTI 1.9 and want to know if the same box that brings the 205 GTI 1.6.

Basically the idea is to mount the CTI 1.9 gearbox into my GTI 1.9 , it is justified?

Thank you very much!

Im not sure what you mean by what you wrote.

The 1.6 gearbox has lower ratios than the 1.9 which means its quicker through the rev range. The 1.9 gearbox is less harsh and more smoother on motorways than the 1.6 because of this. Both the 1.6 and 1.9 BE gearboxes will fit on both engines fine. As long as the gearbox is a BE type it will fit any XU engine.

I need to know is whether the gearbox that comes with the 205 GTI 1.6 is the same as the 205 CTI 1.9. in other words I need to know if the 205 GTI 1.6 and 205 CTI 1.9 shares the same gearbox

I have a 205 GTI 1.9 and want to put a more closed gearbox but I only get the 1.9 CTI..

Thanks.

Well the 1.6 and 1.9 are the same apart from the gears inside are slightly different. Which results in what i said in my previous post. They both will fit and work fine on both engines, it just depends on which one would suit you best for the engines performance and feel you want out of them. Basically the 1.9 is smoother at high speed and the 1.6 is a little more harsh but makes the engine go faster up the rev range.

ok I understand and know, but I mean the gearbox and final drives of 205 CTI (cabrio)..

Thanks.

the 1.9 cti gearbox has different ratio's than the 1.6 box, i beleve Graham (pugtorque) had Henry Yorkes old box in his 205, so could tell you more

From memory, the ratios on a 1.9 CTi gearbox are closer to those of a 1.6 GTi rather than 1.9 GTi - from what I recall, the 1.9 CTi gearbox has a 3.9 FD (final drive) compared to a 4.0 FD on a 1.6 GTi gearbox and a 3.6 FD on a 1.9 GTi gearbox. Fitting is identical to that of a GTi gearbox.

Wrong, the gears on the 1.6 & 1.9 are only different for first gear which is longer in the 1.9 box. The difference between the two is mainly down to the final drive ratio mentioned by Anthony above.

I never got this gearbox from Henry in the end so can't be certain what the difference is but from hours spent on the parts cd (back then) we did discover a Be3 with a 3.9 FD but no more info than that with regards to the ratios.

Anthony 's reply above seems best informed for the difference imo.

Graham.

Thank you very much everyone, you believe that replacing the original gearbox GTI 1.9 and placing the gearbox of the 1.9 CTI will I get a gain in acceleration and mid-term? I personally think that with the gearbox of the 1.9 CTI going to penalize top speed but I will make a profit on low and middle and driving should be more dynamic.

Graham.

Well then that makes it 'slightly different' then.

This is what i found from here for reference, hope it helps  .

Henry Yorke

As has been said the 1.9 CTI is different to the 1.6 & 1.9 normal boxes. It will do what you want in giving you more acceleration compared to the 1.9 gearbox. The ratios are not on the list above, but it is like a 1.6 box with a 1.9 first gear. from measuring the speeds at 4000 rpm when I had one fitted, I got 1st = 22mph, 2nd = 35 mph, 3rd = 48 mph, 4th = 60 mph, 5th = 75 mph

Basically the 1.9 CTI box is a 1.6 with a 1.9 final drive
