Mi16 Oil Temp

Recommended Posts

craig_007

I had the car out for a blast tonight and I did think the oil temp was a little high.

Under normal conditions the oil temp will sit around 70 degrees thats not driving all that hard.

Now tonight I gave the car a good spirited run as it's just been run in.

The oil temp was reading 110 degrees after this run and I'm pretty sure it shouldn't climb as quick as all that,I intend to use the car for track days so I'm assuming if the temp climbs this quick on the road it's not going to last very long on track !

What I will add though and I'm not sure if this makes much odds,I'm using a tin gti6 sump (I think) which still has the original 6 sender in the sump ( The one with the 2 pins)

Will this make the 205 gauges read a little out ?

Water temp never really climbed above 80 degrees.

The car is a 205 with the alloy block MI 16 fitted with original 205 gauges.

Well you can't always trust the gauges but I'm sure that XU9J4 pdf document from Peugeot said maximum safe oil temp is either 120 or 130 degrees.

No I've no cooler fitted and I've done away with the oil warmer thats sits under the oil filter.

I'm begining to wonder if the 6 sender in the sump is maybe over reading on the 205 gauges.

I was running a mi16 with no oil cooler as you have said no problems when driving about but when pushing on oil temp would come up very quickly. I was also seeing a loss in oil pressure. Fitted a 1.9 air oil cooler and things are alot better.
