Basically i will be needed a new bonnet so want to go for a lighter weight model...

This one below looks a good option, but do you just bonnet pin this on or is some sort of reinforcing needed?

It need to be a Autobonnet to help clear my throttle bodies and coilpack cover!

Is there anymore options?

I do belive a lot of people use a bonnet pin in the middle to stop any flaping. There are a few diffrent companys who make auto bonnets. i am currently waiting for a bonnet from magnum motorsport, its carbon fibre with a bluge at the front of the bonnet to clear TB`s on a gti-6 lump.

If you want i will keep you updated of my bonnet as soon as it arrives.

Hi mate, I was also looking at the xsport ones. It will do the job but my friends one doesnt fit all that great. This put me off but I came across this one and bought it on ebay item number 320520169196 This guy re-inforces the front and bonnet pin areas with carbon fibre. They definately are alot lighter plus with four bonnet pins you can remove the whole bonnet when working on your engine or at shows. I would recommend locking bonnet pins so no one pinches it or engine parts.

I'm using the Xsport auto skin and it's pretty good. It's freakishly light but it doesn need a 5th clip in the front to stop it lifting. I'm using 4 aero catches and 1 Dzus clip. Without the 5th clip you end up with this:

I guess I got away lightely with my Xsport bonnet, i've only got 4 bonnet pins.

It's a carbon one though, don't know if that will make much difference? It's reinforced with fibreglass on bottom, and more so in the areas where it'd flex

It's fibreglass and it flexes. Bulged one may not, i have one now but haven't tested it tbh.

My carbon one doesn't.

i have an auto skin from xsport. it is rediculously light compared to the original bonnet. it flapped at the front at around 55-60 mph. so i found some light weight alloy tube and have fibre glassed it in to prevent the flapping. it works a treat and also acts as a good grab handle when moving the bonnet around.

un fortunately i have no pics. but i can get some if needed??

To be honest they really need to strengthen the front edge properly, maybe with some honeycombe or something, which would still keep the weight down...

I was going to do something like that with mine. I had planned to glass in some triangles of insulation foam to strengthen it right up but i just went for the 5th pin in the end, it seemed easier. Would be nice if it was stronger allready, seeing as they are advertised as "Don't flap"

I think the problem is a lot of customers want the lightest bonnet going, then wonder why they bend :P
