Need A New Sump....will The 2.0 8v Xu Sump Fit ?

Recommended Posts

The sump on my 1.9 has had a whack at some point in its life, just along the bottom where the plug is.

I want to replace this as the plug is weeping and I think it's to do with the sump bottom not being 100% flat.

I have a spare 2.0 8v XSI engine from a 306 in my garage, does anyone know if the sump from this will fit ?

Sorry cant help with whether it will fit or not but all but early XSi lumps had baffled sumps so a good upgrade.

It will fit, but it's a full-depth sump and thus you'll need to lose the spacer plate from the 1.9 engine and use the XU10 bolts.

Cheers lads,

As I said, it's on the XSI lump still so I have the full setup.

Anthony, so all I need to do is unbolt the XSI sump and use all those bolts to put it onto the 1.9 engine, taking off the 1.9 sump and spacer plate ?

Does the spacer bolt just pull off once the 1.9 sump is off or is it bolted on seperately ?

There are two bolts that secure the spacer plate to the block.

That makes sense, so just undo the sump bolts and then the 2 spacer bolts, take all of this setup off and replace with just the XU10 sump and XU10 bolts

Also, is the XU sump made from Steel or Alu ?

Either. Generally speaking, non-aircon models have a steel sump, and aircon models have an alloy sump.

If you've got a steel XU10 sump, check that the trap door is attached properly as they have a habit of falling off, and that the sump isn't rusted excessively - the one time that a typical leaky XU sump is of benefit! The alloy sump trapdoor doesn't suffer from the same issues.

Oh, and the oil temp sensor (assuming your XSi one has one fitted - some do, some don't) is a different connector and located on the front of the sump, so you'll need to change the wiring around.

Its from a 1994 XSI, so very early. Not sure on the oil temp sensor so will have to check that too, can't remember seeing one beforehand.

It came from a non-aircon so could be the steel sump then. If so then it could be baffled if not already

While we're on the subject of the XSI, do you know if the gearbox would go straight onto the 1.9 ?
