Loose Wire Mystery

Recommended Posts

Pugdaddy

There's a small wiring loom at the front of my engine (1.6 GTi) with only 3 out of the 4 wires connected. A thin orange wire goes to the left hand sensor on the block, a yellow wire goes to the right hand sensor, and the brown wire goes to the alternator.

That leaves a thin blue wire which has its own black sheath and a spade type connection. It's hanging freely down near the sump at the moment and I've not noticed it there before.

I just changed the oil and filter this weekend so presume I may have disconnected it? I'm just not sure from where and can't see anywhere obvious?!

Can someone kindly enlighten me. Many thanks.

The only blue wire at the front of the block is for the starter solenoid but its noticably thicker than the ones for the oil pressure sender, stop lamp & alternator wire iirc.

Have a search for the brown multiplug topics on here & that should tell you all the wires for the engine sensor, starter & alternator loom.

Graham.

Thanks Graham. Yes, you were absolutely right it was the obsolete starter motor wire. I've had the 'click click start problem' and had replaced with a new wire about a year ago. The old wire was hanging freely and I panicked :) rather than thought rationally! Case closed, thanks
