Positive Camber After Hub Change

Recommended Posts

Jamal

Hi there!

I'm in the progress of building a 4 channel ABS into my 205 car from a 306.

I bought a pair of hubs with ABS sensor holes. Said it's the std 205's hub.

But after the change my local service said, that my car has got positive camber on the front.

The values are:

Left: +0'23"

Right: +0'48"

I measured the length between the outer screws of the struts. It was 1207mm, the factory value is 1210mm, so my chassis is OK.

Am I defrauded? The hubs looks like the 205 ones. Maybe is an early cast iron 306 hub?

Thanks for the help!

A 205 hub shouldn't give positive camber so i would say it's a 306 one you have on there.

306 ones have a slight positive camber on them by comparison to a 205. They do look the same

Yup, 306 hubs on a 205 do give postive camber, so not ideal atall unless your running adjustable wishbones so you can cancel it out.

Hi!

Thanks for the fast replies!

Was I right? Because it looks like a std 205 one. Not the new style hollow cast ones.

Early 306 hubs were solid-cast and look very similar to 205 hubs. Later 306 hubs were hollow-cast and look different

Try some 309 wishbones to cancel it out and bring the camber back in line?

Have only the early 306 hubs can be fitted onto a 205 wishbone because the pin size(16mm)? The newer hollow-cast hubs have got larger pin holes(18mm).

Am I right? :D

Mine has 306 16mm hubs and 309 bones and I have still got + camber. Just waiting for a pair of 205 one and I will be changing back!

The hollow cast hubs (and maybe the solid cast ones too) were available in both 16 and 18mm varieties.

would adjustable topmounts give negative camber, running 205 wishbones and 306 hubs?

I don't know for sure, but the eccentric top mounts alone seem to give very little additional negative camber.

So with 306 hubs, I'd say you will be lucky to get back to zero camber.

standard 1.9 runs 0.10 deg positive +/- 30', might be that ABS hub carriers ran ever so slightly more, as far as I know 306 hub carriers give a lot more than this in camber when fitted to a 205.

would lowering the car make any difference to camber?

Doubtful if you have standard sized springs & front struts, they'll hit the inner wing as soon as you put any lock on.

I'm back :)

Made some pics to illustrate the differences and confirm your answers.

Yes the 306 hubs give positive camber!
