Advice On Condition Of My Beam Please?

Recommended Posts

rallysteve

I bought a 1900 beam a while back for my project. Guy said it was okay, but thought that I would dismantle and check anyway as it is quite rusty externally. Anyway stripped it down this evening, doesnt look too bad to me. But was hoping for some advice please:

Also can someone give me a rough idea on price for new bearings and seals?

Thanks

Steve

The second shaft is a little too past it's best unfortunately, the first may be usable again as long as it's not too pitted, would be betetr turned 180degrees before being used again though. :)

if i was you i would replace both the bearings and shafts while its all apart, This however contradicts what i myself did, which was to fill the bearings with a ton of grease and stick it all back together lol

Worn beyond re-use imo.

I've turned shafts to re-use them before but wouldn't any longer.

Jimistdt is supposed to be getting some more of the bearing kits he sold last year which were about £25 for both sides iirc (might be more this time though) & shafts can be found if you search hard enough for under £50 but there have been pairs on ebay recently for just over £100.

Graham.

Thanks all. Guessed it would be my luck that they were at the end of their life. Have seen there is a place on ebay doing a pair of genuine ones for £125. Will keep looking around.

Cheers Steve
