Selecting Reverse Gear...

Hi all,

 

just thought it was worth checking whilst I still have 2 gear boxes to choose from...

 

new car when selecting reverse, the gear crunches, all forward gears are find, just reverse. could this be something as simple as clutch adjustment, clutch on its way out, or gearbox stuff, or syncros need looking at?

 

the gear box on the old car never crunched (if i recall correctly) so would it be worth just swapping them? any thoughts appreciated

 

they are both BE3 (i think), both cars 1.9 gti 8v

Reverse doesn't have syncro mate. Might be your clutch not fully disengaging.

Little tip for stopping reverse crunching. When stationary and wanting to select reverse, if you are running a BE3 box, slip it into 5th then straight back into reverse. Will slide in like a well lubed female everytime.

I think mine used to do this when my idle was too high iirc
