Interior Spring Clean

Recommended Posts

The Arch Bishop

I decided it was about time I actually tidied up the inside of the old girl this weekend as I was desperate to get rid of the rank smell of old oil and skank . Thought I'd share a few pictures (everybody loves pictures).

Started off stripping the seats out (which was a lot easier than I thought it'd be) so I could see just what a state the carpets were in.

Quite a bit seemed pretty clean but all the foot-wells and around the handbrake surround was encrusted with 22 years of grot, hair, spilt UmBungo and God knows what else.

I set about the carpet with a mixture of upholstery shampoo and spot cleaner using an old dish-brush to work it in. I then used a wet and shampoo vacuum to suck up any excessive moisture and was really pleased with the results!

And the cleaned seats back in...

Really helped that we had such a warm day yesterday as it dried everything off really quickly. As a bonus, it certainly smells more 'reliable' now!

Looks great. I've just done the same but whipped the carpet out, scrubbed with cleaner / spot remover, draped it over the washing line and got the pressure washer on it. The rotten soundproofing underneath is the culprit of the smell. :D

I did toy with taking the carpet out but decided I couldn't be ar$ed. The soundproofing will be infused with the smell of carpet shampoo now anyway! :D

Thanks for all the nice comments!

It's well worth the effort! Only problem is I have no mats for it so it probably won't stay so sparkly for long...

Some people replace the red carpet with grey, black or green. personally I think its such a waste looking at those pics they really do come up lovely and bright, its what imo makes the 205 gti distinct. Has anyone removed the sound proofing underneath and kept the carpet in? the soundproofing keeps the smell of damp and musty although road noise will be increased.

The Arch Bishop, I have had original mats, chequered aluminum mats and rubber mats and the best mats I have had are the deluxe/luxurious mats from Tesco. They have a really thick tuft and fit the 205 footwells perfectly and last well.

Interior looks lovely, good job.

The Halfords air freshner hand spray works quite well.

Just popped a new set of mats infused with the spray into mine, still smells good when climbing in first thing in the morning.

I replaced the original underfloor felt with this:

Coverdale latex backed felt

Just used the old rubber backed peugeot underlay as a template. 4m squared for £32 was enough to do a 205 twice.

The peugeot soundproofing is £190 for front and back! :)
