Smoke From My Interior Light...

Recommended Posts

Obey_R

Have been trying to get my interior light working again today but came across a funny looking bulb type thing up there as well.

The hole it pokes through looks to have been drilled at some point, it looks like a blue bulb but doesn't sit properly in the hole - so I have it a push from above, it clicks into place but smoke instantly starts pouring out from the surround, when it retreats back upwards, the smoke stops...

I don't have a clue what it is, or whether it's meant to be there but I can't even get it out to look because I can't get the whole surround out!

Help?

i'm speakin from experience when i say that, chances are water has got in and shorted the module in the roof plastic

just dis-connect, and make slight repair if necessary.

if it's really burnt, it affects your central locking

Blipper?

Does the interior light bit just pull off? Don't want to break anything.

if you take the map light out there is a small screw holding the whole surround up there.

think it's the receiver for the OE central locking/immobiliser, via the key fob

I don't have a fob, just a plain metal key.

However central locking does still work.

The unit is very burnt up, broken/burnt wires and the circuit board is very black. Is it essensial for the immob/central locking, or can I do without?

EDIT:

Well I just cut the unit out because half of the wirse wern't connected anyway and my central locking still works so I shall leave it like that!

Now just to mount a on/off switch in the hole it made so I can have my interior light working again.

Cut what out? The Receiver unit? You could've just unplugged it if so!

The wires were melted onto the unit! It was a right hash so just snipped it out :)
