Xs Inlet Manifold Broken

Recommended Posts

Will Eastman

Hey i have now found out that the reason for my cars overheating is that there is a pipe snaped off the inlet manifold, meaning i either need to send it away to be aluminium welded back on, or need to buy another. I am open to advise and would like to obveously do the cheapest quickest thing avialible.

The current manifold i have is fairly new and apart from this break looks to be in pretty good nick, this makes me think maybe i should mend it, although i dont know how much this will cost, any ideas???

Also if i am to buy another manifold, where would i get one from, and which manifolds would fit, eg. just a tu3 xs manifold, or also manifolds from citroen ax gt's or are there others. thanks in advance

havent got one sorry, it broke down and is in a garage about and hour away from home so cant get one. all i know is they said a pipe has broken off the bottom of it (a pipe thats to do with the cooling system im pretty sure). Anyone got a clue with which engines use the same manifold, or manifolds that would fit. thanks

I don't think that hose will be casing problems.

I was told just to block it off when using a non standard inlet, all it's there for is to heat the inlet manifold iirc?

It can only really be a few things mate,

1. Airlocked cooling system needs bleeding

2. Thermostat faulty (have you replaced this yet and bled the cooling system fully?)

3. Fans not working as they should (check wiring and thermoswitch)

4. A leak in the cooling system (check all pipes, clips etc)

5. Headgasket is going/has gone (hopefully not!)

6. Waterpump failed?

If I was you, I'd get a mate with a trailer and get the car home, then work on it yourself and figure out whats wrong with it.

EDIT: I agree with Jrod, cant see that pipe broke off being the problem, I'll have a look at my Xs later and see which one you're talking about.

if its the pipe im thinking of, you should be able to use some of that 'weld putty' stuff (cant remember the name) they grey putty that you roll together in you fingers then seal it round the crack.

sounds to me like you have lost pressure in the cooling system because of this crack.

you will need a manifold off either an axgt, 205xs or 205gt but i think yours should be repairable.
