Nissens Alloy Radiators?

Recommended Posts

SorrentoED

Seeing as i've done my engine up a bit, just wondered whether I ought to replace my radiator with a performance one.

I've been looking at a nissens one, they're fairly reasonably priced so didn't know whether anyone has any experience with them and if its worth getting one.

I have one and it seems ok. They are alloy ones as opposed to the usual steel ones so technically are lighter. I have heard that they are meant to have better cooling properties than a standard, though a TD rad would be better than one of these as they are thicker and can flow more water. If you have no water temp problems then I wouldn't swap. If you have the old one out and it is crusty, then maybe a new rad is a good idea and one of the rusty metal pipes on the offside front inner wing.

Copper core yes.

I have a few Nissens ones, very good. Only thing worth mentioning is the small bleed outlet on the top seems to be weak, prone to breaking easily.

sell these at work, dont have any problems with them. I have a alloy Valeo fitted to mine, excellent quality.

cheers chaps, will bare this in mind. When I'm rolling about at low speeds everywhere the temp does creep up a lot but has never oerheated. Its more of a saftey measure than a cure.

Will the TD rad go straight in, or will i have to make a few modifications?

I always though Nissens were the best ones? Are there any better options then?

Nissens are the best 'STD' rads imo.

Copper = bad when your running hot water through a alloy engine. Its the weaker of the two metals and the alloy 'infected' water attacks it over time. Same reason your suppost to run an aditive as well as coolant in a water cooled pc. Every copper 205 rad ive seen has been absolutely knackered. Copper is slightly beter for heat transfer than alloy though.

I fit rads to cars as part of my job, its rare I seen items equal to the quality of the Nissens jobbies, even OEM ones. Valeo ones are ok, not as nice as Nissens imo.

My Nissens rad still looks like new (well a little dull in colour now) 3 years on. Will buy again when the time comes :)
