right then guys this is a longish read and apologies if a litte jumbled about

basically i got a very cheap 1.9 gti with a duff head gasket

so im planning whilst i have it apart to have a play with it for some poke

this is my first real engine build and only time ive plooked at a 205 motor tbh so im after a few pointers ive been involved in a few builds on citroen saxos but not done one on my own before

firstly is this mani any good?? played with saxos and the raceland seems quite good on them ill be using the pugsport mild steel exhaust will it fit together properly?

this mani

this exhaust

i have a set of dellorto twin 40s i bought for something else but i think there better suited to this the way there set with chokes and jets how hard is it to get them on the motor instead of injection?

i know ill need an inlet im thinking this one

http://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/prod...artsectionID=46

and finally camshafts

im looking at newmans (had ph3s before and was impressed) but looking the carbs i think will allow a ph4 to be fitted (as the ph3 will rin on standard injection happily) would that have any valve clearance issues ect with the wilder cam?

and obviously a vernier pulley will be on the end im thinking a piper one will do the trick yea?

details on the cams can be found here

http://www.newman-cams.com/pdf/peugeot.pdf

will i need to consider anything else need i need to uprate whilst im there like valve guides or rod bolts?

id rather not mess in the bottom end if i dont have too like

finally just to say the car isnt a daily driver ect so doesnt need to idle or drive at low revs ect extremely well it will just see b road blasts and ring trips when done

first, is a copy of magnex 4 branch manifold, second, is no match for a PH2 standards gti system.

not sure on the newmans cams, I think Sandy has used one of them in a 1.9 8valve.

so mani should be pretty good

my old 1.9 came with a magnex on and seemed good

the exhaust I have 1989 so pre cat a ph2 has a cat iirc?? Or is it in the downpipe or something

Got the pugsport on my xs (slightly modified to fit) and love the sound that's the main reason Im thinking it like as the car currently has a 4" cannon on it lol

newmans seem good quality just after info on clearances to standard pistons mostly as I have no idea on how much space is there

I have a Newman cam PH1 in my pretty standard 1.9 and I am happy with it :)

I have that exhaust mani on my car. Is good quality really for the price. I have a '90 G 1.9 (no cat) and all i had to do was cut the centre section to sleeve into the flange. Sounds well but have a few vibration issues which seem to be coming from the mani touching the PAS rack heatsheild.

I have a non pas I think so should clear hopefully then

the quality of raceland buildwise does seem good just wasn't sure design wise but if it's a copy of a magnex it should be good I hope lol

I have the ph4 sprint cam. Need a minimum of 11.5-1 comp ratio to be effective, so ideally you need 1.6 flat top pistons or forged proper jobbies with rods. Cam is fantastic though and you would want 45 carbs not 40's on the 1.9 especially when tuning. My 309 is on the dyno tomorrow also with a magnex mani and 2 1/4" straight through to back box system so see what it does then. Also with that cam on dizzy ignition it was lumpy and peaky to drive but now have 3d weber alpha ignition it has transformed it into being very driveable and smooth.

Hope that helps.

Forgot to mention with that cam you really want double valve springs so the head would need new platforms machining and retainers machined aswell. And the head might need relieving in a few places for the cam to phisically turn in the carrier, have heard of the touching the spray bar also.

So basically ph4 won't work on my internals then

did see something saying 45s is better in my digging about

after reading that then will I be best running a ph3 and keeping my standard inlet injection setup an possibly a bit of a map tweak?

As it would save a fair bit I think to do it that way

as for ecu ect I had been looking at the omex ignition only one if I got for carbs
