Xs Overheating Need A Thermostat

Hey just had a problem with my xs overheating and it is now in a garage needing mending. Iv been told that its the thermostat locked shut, so i need a new one (or iv been told i can bypass it, although if a bolt breaks while doing this it does even more damage aparently?) any ideas what to do and where to get a thermostat. thanks

by the way my car is a 89 xs with a tu3 engine, cheers

Any motorfactos will have a thermostat, i think the last one i bought was about £6. They're easy to change, just unbolt the casing, pop out the old one, fit the new one with the new seal and bolt it all back togeather again. Easy.

The exact same thing happened to me last week on my Xs!

 

My local motor factors got me a thermostat for about £6, although I took it out for a few days while I waited on the part so that I could still get to work, if you want to run without one remember you need to put siligasket between the elbow and the housing until you get the new thermostat and seal fitted.

 

I fixed this and then one of my heater matrix pipes burst, so have a temporary hose on while I wait for a new one from peugeot. Then my alarm packed up the other day, the Xs isn't liking me at the minute I think!

so is it the same part for an xs as for all other 205's eg for gti's??? and when you say motorfactors is this a shop, where can i get it from. thanks

The thermostat is the same part, its just the opening temperature that differs, I think!

 

A motorfactors is just a shop that sells car parts yes, GSF and Euro Car Parts are motor factors but surely you have a local place that sells car parts? I have about 6 near me but I stick to the same one because I know them and they always help me out.

 

If you're stuck and don't have a motor factors near you then i'm sure peugeot could sell you one. GSF stock OE quality parts at lower prices though
