Head Bolts

Recommended Posts

Paul Smith

Hi

I have decided to replace the head gasket as I think this may resolve my oil leak issue, but the local central autos can supply 2 different types of head bolts can anyone tell me if they are different as all they can tell me is the heads of the bolts are different.

Its a 1.6 f reg 1989 early model ?

The very early engines had hex headbolts, you need the torx type t55 iirc. Worth doing the water pump and buying a cambelt kit with tesnioner whilst your at it.

Thats cool they had the torx ones, i'll grab a new cambelt kit, oil and filter. Its a bit annoying but cant see any where else that the oil can be coming from and its leaking like a trooper now.

GSF do the bolts very cheap, the Torx ones are longer too, so will have a fairly thick spacer you need to use from the old bolts.

check the bolt above the water pump, this needs both the large spacer and a spacer the same as all the other bolts, if you miss out a spacer you can crack the water pump housing.
