No Oil Pressure Reading

Recommended Posts

Obey_R

Sorry for another oil pressure thread, I have searched but couldn't find anything similar.

When I turn the key before starting up, the oil pressure light comes on (normal I believe?) But once started the needle doesn't move at all - not even a little bit. The light does go off straight away though.

Is this likely to mean there really is no pressure or a faulty gauge? It doesn't move when warm, cold, under acceleration or when idleing.

Any ideas?

This has been covered many times, the brown multiplug will more than likely be the culprit. Trace the wire back from the sensor, the larger of the two under the inlet area. :)

mine sometimes worked and sometimes didn't and was the brown multiplug a quick fiddle with the plug sensor wire and it would work again.

Thanks, will give it a look tonight, just loose wires or something more serious?

Failing that ill fit a mechanical one.

Well I'm going to redo the brown multiplug tomorrow evening so hopefully that will fix it - just a cheap fix if so.

Will let you know if I hear back about going to see this donor car on Sunday, if you're going to keep yours still?

Well I spent a few hours today removing the brown multiplug, hasn't resolved the oil pressure readign - still nothing - but at least everything else still works!

Next step to change the sensor?

Pull the wire off the sender and earth it. If it shoots all the way up then the gauge and wiring are fine. If not you have got a problem further down the line. (remember to do this with the ignition on though!)

Just to clarify - the sender shouldn't have any effect on the warning light should it? As I removed the sender connection and the light stopped working... could the mean the switch and sender wires are the wrong way round? ;)

Right,

Just earthed the sender unit and nothing - needle didn't move at all. So hopefullt this means it's just the dial rather than the sender... although could still be both I guess.

So now I don't know whether to try and source a new set of cloths, which I need for the dodgey odometer, or to just put in a mechanical gauge...
