HELLO EVERYBODY NEW TO THE FORUM BUT LOVE 205 S HAD THEM FOR YEARS AND AM NOW THE PROUD OWNER OF A BLACK 205 GTI6 CAMS ALPHA WEBER THROTTLE BODIES AND EMERALD MANAGEMENT RUNNING 186 BRAKE STILL RUNNING STANDART GTI6 MANIFOLD AND STANDARD 205 EXHAUST I WANT TO FIT A PERFORMANCE MANIFOLD BEEN TOLD COULD GIVE ME 200 BRAKE ??????? BUT WHERE DO I GET ONE FROM ? ENGINE FITTED AT CORRECT ANGLE ( PUG 1 OFF ) AND WILL IT BE A STANDARD GTI6 ONE OR DOES IT HAVE TO BE MODIFIED BECAUSE OF THE CONVERSION ? I AM NOT A MECHANIC BUY A LONG SHOT SO ANY HELP VIEWS IDEAS WOULD BE A GREAT HELP ALSO WOULD IT BE BEST TO CHANGE EXHAUST ? OR STICK WITH ORIGINAL ? LIKE THE STEALTH LOOK ALSO NOT TO NOISY !!! Watch the CAPS please, It's horrid to read

 

Who ever said fitting a exhaust manifold will give you 200bhp is talking .... ..... as the std one is fine for a good 220bhp, a good exhaust system of 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" is all you need and the figure you have is around right for your spec.

 

I;d check the engine angle as I;ve de-tilted a couple of Pug 1off's and if not the std 205 box mind the N/S driveshaft as these are cut down.

Hi miles sorry not to good with computer ! thanks for your reply you have saved me alot of money was going to buy one from pug one of for £ 350 plus vat any ideas on what sort of exhaust would be best for power dont want it to noisy love the sound of the throttle bodies !! remember having a 1.9 with a mongoose sounded lovely many thanks matt

cams, tb's and emerald but still only running 186 ?? something not right there surely?

 

as far as i know the std 6 manifold is pretty well designed and youd struggle to find a better one.

 

i'd save the cash and get it mapped properly if i was you

Hi pug pete have it booked in with emerald in may as they are only just down the road when i spoke to matt at pug 1 off he tol me it was to do with manifold as it was one of the earlier ones he done later ones with different manifold same spec were over 200 brake !! like i said am far from a mecanic and bought the car with engine in so really not sure tidy conversion though and runs perfect !! thanks matt

Missed the Cam's part so that is low, It could be the same manifold as Pug Performace use as there's not too many of the aftermarket GTi6 ones around for the 205 which from test's are not as good as the OE one, The std one looks like this

 

The only real upgrade is the 4-2-1 design from Maniflow but this is only really needed on a Race engine, Have a search on here for Maxi's engine which is a fair spec I think and is circa 220bhp which is still on the OE manifold

Has your steering rack been restricted to stop the pass side wheel rubbing the end of gearbox on full right hand lock?????

 

And if so how much lock do you loose?????

hi yes it has restricted the steering lock but worth it love the six speed box much better for motor way driving as dont rev so high and have not lost to much you get use to it very quikly i guess the only trouble i have is maybe a tight spot in car park but drive a bloody great nissan navara so nothing new !!! thanks matt

Its not got a longer 6th, just short gears in between.

I fitted a gti-6 gearbox to my 205 and the right hand turn was rubbish. Forget carparks, you have to severely cut over mini roundabouts and on T junctions. Also its a bit heavy at around 45kg

I got just as much thrill from a 1.9 box with 1.6 final drive so i removed it and sold it on.

Well you learn something everyday...It seemed no different to my mi16 box, but maybe I took too long fitting it to remember.

That would be how I've got 37mpg with sartys ZX with a 6 box.

30mph is about 1400rpm in 6th lol

Yeah I'm pretty sure most people on here prefer cars over computers but still, look through every other post in this place and you'll see that everybody makes an effort to write properly. It's not that we're some elitist literacy Nazis, it just makes it so much easier to understand what you're on about!

Yeah, this is the problem. The majority of members on here will see a post written in caps lock with no punctuation and s*it spelling and instantly hit the back button.
