Some Questions On Xu10j4.

Hey guys !

 

Saturday i will open my S16 engine to make it run again. One of the water hose has been disconnected and the temp was too high and the head gasket became faulty.

One of the questions is: i can use the metal head gasket of the XU10J4RS on a XU10J4 (S16) engine without problem?

Here on Brazil some people thats make maintenance on peugeot and citroen cars speak that is not possible, but after read so much here i see some hybrid engines using the J4RS head on the XU10J4 block.

 

Second question is: It's better to replace the S16 cylinder head (XU10J4) to GTi-6 (XU10J4RS) cylinder head?

Wich cylinder head is more robust? After some reading here on the forum, some users say the GTi-6 cylinder head has wrote about the compression rate that is improved using the J4RS head, but and about robustness?

 

And the third and final question: I will replace the GTi-6 inlet soon, to use ITB's. To make the adjusts on the injection, i have a A'Pexi SAFC Neo (the sucessor of SAFCII) i wired everything correctly except the rpm sensor. What is the place that i can get the rpm correctly? I have tried directly on the ECU and the SAFC report 12000rpm on idle. :D

I have tried the phase sensor (the blue or green, i dont remember exactly now. It's the sensor on cylinder head on the side of the inlet cam) and the SAFC report 231rpm.

I have tried the phase sensor (the blue or green, i dont remember exactly now. It's the sensor on cylinder head on the side of the inlet cam) and the SAFC report 231rpm.

 

Normally you would use a crank position sensor that fits in the gearbox bellhousing (round hole about 20mm or so, with a single retaining screw) to read off the flywheel. Assuming you have a flywheel with the appropriate toothing on it. Failing that you can retrofit a sensor and ring on the crank pulley at the other end.

 

The cams run at a geared-down rate compared to the crank so the cam position sensor you mention will read low, as you have found out!

Actually i'm using the original crank position sensor. Some people has talked about this sensor to me, but the S16 has stopped before i have some time to test... :D

for easy of getting it back on the road I would keep the RFY head, yes the RFS gasket will work fine.

 

the block is as close as you can get without being the same part number.
